Armed Robbery. Over recent years the target of the robber has changed from banks and betting outlets to corner stores, hotels, take-away food outlets and petrol stations. The causes of this change are complex and so is the reasoning behind the robber selecting his target. A site that remains open after-hours is more at risk of armed robbery because other potential targets have closed for the day - a matter of "supply and demand". (Extended hours = Extended risk). A site that has had one or more robberies is more at risk than a site that has not had a robbery. Unless the "weakness" that gained the attention of the first robber is fixed, others may be attracted to the site. Decreasing the risk of armed robbery is not just a matter of installing alarm systems and video cameras. The potential robber must be convinced that the site is not worth the risk. This must be achieved either before he enters, or just as he enters, the premises. We can advise you of a number of ways to do this. We cannot advise how to prevent every armed robbery, but experience shows that the number can be reduced.
